The Clinical Center Pharmacy now offers the preferred Shingles vaccine, Shingrix®, to MSU patients, faculty, retirees and employees. Shingles vaccination is recommended for patients aged 50 years and older.

“The risk of getting shingles increases as a person gets older,” Sandra Campbell, PharmD, pharmacist and HealthTeam Pharmacy Supervisor explains.

Who should get a shingles vaccination

While everyone over 50 years of age are advised to get a shingles vaccination, it is strongly advised for some individuals.

According to Campbell, “People who have medical conditions that keep the immune system from working properly, or people who receive immunosuppressive drugs are also at greater risk to get shingles.”

Easy as a flu shot

Getting your shingles vaccine is now as easy as getting a flu shot. Patients can request the vaccine when they pick up their prescriptions from the Clinical Center Pharmacy.

Insurance Coverage

Shingrix® is covered by most insurance payors which offer prescription coverage. You can check with your insurance or ask our friendly pharmacy staff members to check for you.

Shingrix® is MSU HealthTeam’s preferred shingles vaccine because it has been shown to be more effective than other vaccines at preventing shingles.

Vaccine administration hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Clinical Center Pharmacy location only.
